The Garden

At some point in the recent past there was a large cleared area on the right side of the house.  This will be used for our garden.  We've seen fairly recent satelite images that show it being mostly overgrown with grass.  But just 3-4 years of neglect allowed the Sweet Gum, Wild Persimmon and Mimosa saplings to take the place over.

My Little Red Tractor has a solution for that ...

Much better!  Our little 4ft Howse rotary mower cut stuff I never would have believed it would manage.  It ate up a stand of 10ft tall saplings like it was a salad.  Even digested the tractor's tow bar, though how it survived that I'll never know.  Anyway it is an awesome tool.

Now considering it has been a long time since this land has been in use I figured I should turn it over with a breaking/bottom plow.  My Leinbach 2-14 is perfect for the job.

Rut-Row! The plow is working pretty good but My Little Red Tractor isn't up to the job in the current configuration.  Plenty of horsepower but too light in the britches.  Being so light it breaks traction in the rear wheels too easy and when you try to lift the plow to compensate, the front end comes off the ground.  No worries though, just need more heft.  I could buy some suitcase weights as my YM-3110 is equivalent to a John Deere 950 (with more horsepower) and the weights are readily available.  However, rear wheel weights as harder to get and both are well over $1 a pound.  Concrete is cheap and easy to work with, plus there are some old bags sitting in the barn.  So I'm gonna try to make my own.  Stay tuned!
